Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius testified in front of congress last
week to discuss the failed new government health care website, HealthCare.gov. Connectivity problems and glitches in the
website for the federal health care system have been fresh fodder for
Republican complaining since the end of the government shut down in mid
October.
President Obama has expressed repeated frustration with the
website, but stands by the program’s execution overall. While stating there is no excuse for the
website’s shortcomings, the president also insisted that the insurance being
offered to uninsured Americans is a good deal.
President Obama further insisted that the website problems are being
exacerbated by anti-health care republicans who are still trying to defund the
law.
The department of Health and Human Services reported that
users were having trouble logging into the website or receiving error
messages. Sebelius testified in front a
congressional committee and took responsibility for the website’s shortcomings.
The expressions on Sebelius’ face became a big story across
content websites, however, as the questions became increasingly
frustrating. Buzzfeed published the “9
Levels of Shade Kathleen Sebelius Threw at Republicans”. Her
clear frustration, however, seems a reflection on general sentiment toward
government lately. Confidence is low
after the government shut down last month.
