Next time you order a happy meal for the kids, you might
want to check the box first. A McDonald’s worker in Pittsburgh was arrested on
Jan. 29th for selling heroin in Happy Meal boxes.
According to a statement from Mike Manko, Communications Director
for the Allegheny Court District Attorney’s Office, the employee was arrested
after undercover law officials requested to buy the drug. Shantia Dennis, 26, provided the undercover officers with a happy meal box
containing 10 stamp bags of heroin inside.
Potential buyers for the drug were told to go through the
McDonald’s drive-through and say, “I’d like to order a toy.” They were then
given a Happy Meal box-containing heroin at the drive-through first window
after paying Dennis $82, according to Manko. Following the exchange between
Dennis and the undercover agents, officers immediately arrested Dennis and
discovered 50 bags of heroin along with a small amount of marijuana,.

Dennis has been charged with two counts of possession for
heroin and marijuana, criminal use of a cell phone, delivery of heroin, along
with possession with intent to deliver. Earlier this month, a McDonald’s employee was arrested for selling heroin from a McDonald’s in nearby
Murrysville, PA. The owner of that McDonald’s also owns the one that Dennis
worked at.
Owner Iftikhar Malik claims to be unaware of the drug sales.
“The allegations related to this employee do not represent acceptable behaviors
and are not consistent with my values,” Malik said in a statement. “We take
these charges very seriously and we are fully cooperating with the authorities.”
Over 22 people have recently died due to heroin overdoses in
southwestern Pennsylvania. The deaths occurred due to fentanyl-laced heroin,
although the drugs that the DA recovered Wednesday do not appears to be related.
