Human Rights Lawyer Marries Seth Meyers

  In an intimate ceremony in Martha’s Vineyard, Saturday Night Live writer and performer Seth Meyers wed his long time girlfriend, lawyer and human rights advocate Alexi Ashe.­­­­­­­­  Ashe has worked for King County on human trafficking cases and before that was an assistant for Human Rights First.  Now married to the next host of “Late Night” on NBC, Ashe may be able to use her new celebrity status to promote her causes.

  The wedding was a star-studded affair, full of comedians and actors from Meyers’ twelve season run on SNL.  Attendees included Jason Sudeikis and Olivia Wilde, Kristen Wiig, Jake Gyllenhaal, Olivia Munn, Kenan Thompson and Tony Shalhoub.  Friends say that Meyers was positively ecstatic to be getting married.  The couple has been together for several years but only got engaged one month before.

  Ashe has a law degree from Southwestern University and now works as a district attorney in Brooklyn.  She is also an advisor for AC Investment Management.  She speaks out against human trafficking on her Twitter account, which will likely now receive many more followers.

  Actors and lawyers are not quite as different as one would think.  The two could have a lot to learn form each other, as both professions involve influence people to get desired reactions.  Both could assist each other in dramatic timing, posture, body language and speech.  In an article called Method Acting for Lawyers, the Bar Association recommends that lawyers treat jurors like guests or audience members. 

  Both lawyers and actors are storytellers by trade.  Both professions involve taking ideas and information and transforming it into a coherent narrative.  After having already appeared in a Vogue feature, Alexi Ashe appears comfortable with entertaining an audience already.
