Music fans might remember the strange murder plot involving
Joss Stone that was discovered in 2011. Two
men, Junior Bradshaw and Kevin Liverpool, had apparently planned on beheading
the English pop star with a samurai sword and then dumping her body into a
river because of her social connections with the British Royal Family.
Stone has a country home in Devon, and when residents saw
the two unknown men driving and acting strangely, they immediately alerted
police. After the men were arresting for their suspicious behavior (such as
asking a local postman for directions to Stone’s home), their vehicle was
searched. Inside, police found many incriminating objects, including samurais
swords, a hammer, a spike, black bags, tape, and hosepipe. The men also had
notes on them, which detailed their plans for Ms. Stone.
Bradshaw and Liverpool were charged with conspiracy to
commit murder, conspiracy to commit robbery, and conspiracy to commit grievous
bodily harm. On Wednesday, April 3rd, both men were convicted of the
crime. A search of Liverpool’s home led to the discovery of a personal diary
that laid out detailed plans to rob and attack the singer. He received a life
sentence with a 10-year minimum term.
Bradshaw, on the other hand, has not yet been sentenced
because of his mental state. He was transferred to a mental health ward in 2012
for evaluation. He has claimed that he is schizophrenic, doesn’t remember whose
idea it was to go to Devon, and says he didn’t even know who Joss Stone was
before this case came up. He also says he only remembers being jailed for two
months, when he was in fact in jail for over a year. He pleaded not guilty to
the crime, saying he thought he and Liverpool were just “going on a day out”
and nothing more.
