On September 1st, former WWE star Jimmy “Superfly” Snuka was charged with the 1983 murder of his ex-girlfriend, Nancy Argentino. Charges against Snuka include third-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter for Argentino’s death.

The Fiji-born Hall of Famer was jailed on $100,000 bail in Lehigh, Pa. for the death of the then 23 year old of Brooklyn. Snuka told police that he had found Argentino unresponsive in her bed at their hotel after a taping for the World Wrestling Federation.

In Argentino’s autopsy it was determined she died of traumatic brain injuries and had more than three dozen cuts and bruises and that she had been hit with a stationary object.

When this news was released, forensic pathologist Isidore Mihalakis wrote that the case should be investigated as a homicide until proven otherwise but the investigation went cold.

Lehigh County District Attorney Jim Martin reopened the Snuka case last year in large part to an Allentown Morning Call investigation that opened up new questions about Argentino’s death in 1983.

It seems that Snuka changed his story when he published his autobiography, “Superfly: The Jimmy Snuka Story” in which his story changed radically. In the book, Snuka says Nancy slipped and fell on her own while going to the bathroom at a rest stop. He makes no mention of an altercation whatsoever.

Snuka, who had four children and was married at the time of the altercation, was the only suspect in the case but had never been charged.

Just months before her death, Snuka was arrested for beating her in a Syracuse motel. He pleaded guilty to the harassment at the time and more serious charges were dropped.  Earlier this year, Snuka’s wife announced he had been diagnosed with stomach cancer.
